No Hope for an Agreement with the US in the Short Term

Interview with Eco Iran News Agency, October 9, 2026 –

Sasan Karimi, a faculty member at the University of Tehran, pointed to the gap between the positions of Iran and the United States, stating that the distance between the two sides is vast and an agreement cannot be envisioned in the short term.
Noting that he does not see sufficient will for an agreement on either side, Karimi remarked: "The golden opportunity for an agreement lies before the US elections, yet I consider it unlikely that this opportunity can be utilized in practice, as I do not observe such determination on either the American or the Iranian side."
He also highlighted his preference for academic work over involvement in the political arena, stating: "I feel that issues should be examined within the university—through the avenues of knowledge and research—rather than being pursued primarily at an operational level."
