Sasan Karimi, a lecturer in international politics at the University of Tehran, also discussed the possibility of an agreement on not activating the snapback mechanism in the wake of upcoming consultations and developments in New York, in an interview with the newspaper Donya-e Eqtesad. He said: "I doubt that anything significant will happen; because what emerges from the dynamics of relations between Iran and Western countries—namely the United States and the three European countries—is not that there is sufficient will to reform matters. Therefore, there is neither the necessary will nor can one expect a significant initiative from Iran." According to this university professor, it should be noted that one cannot bypass or change course behind the doors of the Security Council; because the opposite parties will generally perceive the flexibility of the other side as weakness. "Unless the type of initiative, the initiative diplomacy, and its presentation prevent this perception."In response to a question about what he means by a significant initiative from Iran, Karimi explained: "I mean, for example, inviting all remaining JCPOA members to return simultaneously and immediately to all their commitments under the JCPOA. That is, the parties return to the conditions of the JCPOA period, we move past the date of the annulment of Resolution 2231, and the resolutions are also nullified." This university professor also addressed whether proposals such as a meeting between Mr. Pezeshkian and Trump could pave the way forward, saying: "Although the probability of such a meeting is very low, it should be noted that while the effects of the potential meeting are not negative, it also does not have an immediate positive operational impact."
